  The old shop-front of this supremly relaxed, welcoming and low-cost hotel right beside the bustling Saint-André des Arts has been known and loved by (mostly foreign) academics and intellectuals for years. They push a door onto a home from home to be greeted by a row of old choir stalls set on a 19th century tiled floor, a timber frame surrounding a listed staircase and a former philosophy teacher.
  He much prefers running an hotel: the students come of their own accord and are HAPPY to talk"philo"...in all simplicity.
  The neighbouhood is lively, the athmosphere stimulating.
  In the corridors, the walls are covered with coconut matting -an original and succesful way of disguising irregularities with a natural material- but no effort is made to hide their twist and turns; they reveal the way the buildingwas, and still is, articulated round the courtyard.

  Monsieur Le Goubin's rooms all have \"en-suite bathrooms\", some are free standing, all-in-one moulded cabins, all are perfectly adequate. The ceilings are sometimesimmensely high with fine great windows to match, beams, timbers, old stone walls -all the sign of great age and lasting quality. The decor is simple too. Japanese grass paper in various shades on the walls, \"ethnic\" print curtains, practical basic furniture.
