The Marais encompasses a large part of this district. It is where live side by side old private mansions from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as many wholesalers in jewellery, luggage and tannery, even if as in the clothing industry there are more and more Chinese imports.
The boulevard Sebastopol, border of the district skirts also the Sentier, beginning at the crossing point of the rue de Rivoli to throw itself in the Grand Boulevards separating the 3rd district from 9th and 10th and the Porte de Saint Denis (Saint Denis gate) and Saint Martin where two triumphal arches are erected.
There lies also the splendid Centre Culturel Georges Pompidou (Georges Pompidou Arts Center), museum of modern art which regularly renews its painting exhibitions. On its roof, there is a restaurant with a terrace where you ‘d better book in advance during the summer evenings. It offers a superb sight on the south of Paris.
